Patricia Raney

Patricia Raney

Patricia Ann Raney, 75, of San Antonio, passed away suddenly on July 14, 2025. A dedicated educator and lifelong learner, Patricia spent more than 40 years teaching, first in San Antonio ISD and later with the Department of Defense Overseas Schools in Japan and Germany. She inspired generations of students with her intellect, warmth, and deep belief in the power of education.

A proud San Antonian, Patricia was a longtime member of MacArthur Park Lutheran Church and was an active member of Beta Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was deeply loved by a wide circle of close friends and neighbors. She had a passion for books, crafts, puzzles, travel, and Asian art, and was rarely without a cat by her side.

She is survived by her brother, James Raney, and his wife, Sybil; her nephew, Ian Raney; her niece, Emma Cummins (RJ); grandnephew, Austin Cummins; step-niece, Susannah Broyles; step-nephew, David Broyles (Kate); and step-grand nieces and nephew, Claire and Theo Broyles. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and James G. Raney.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on July 29, 2025, at MacArthur Park Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MacArthur Park Lutheran Church, the San Antonio Public Library, or San Antonio Pets Alive

I had the pleasure of reconnecting with Patricia a few years ago and visited with her several times.  Unfortunately, I had not seen her due to my own medical issues for the past two years.  I am quite sorry to hear of her passing as she was always a pleasure to visit.  Mel Cohen

Pat and i reconnected several years ago.  Turns out our mothers were friends from church. Pat was a great help for my mother, especially when she moved into an assisted living facility.  This was a big help for me too since I live so far away.  Pat would often visit her and helped get things she needed when she went in the hospital a few times.  Pat was very involved at MacArthur Park Lutheran Church. She was in the choir, the bell choir, bible studies, did readings during the services and helped at the school.  She will be greatly missed.

So sorry to hear this news.  I knew Patty for longer than I remember.  We were friends in school and church and we were usually in the same homeroom.  I have some very fond memories of her and was glad to reconnect with her our 50th renunion.
