Michael “Mike” Joseph Sheils, of Colleyville, beloved husband, father, PopPop, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at the age of 76.

Mike was born on November 9, 1949, in El Paso, Texas, to Elizabeth Jane Young Sheils and Denis Francis Sheils. The son of a military officer, meant he lived in several locations and finally settled in San Antonio, Texas. In San Antonio, he attended MacArthur High School and was a part of the Brahmas Football Team- class of 1968. Known affectionately as “Wally” by his classmates, teammates and friends, Mike’s sense of humor and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He continued his education at Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing in 1972. A proud Red Raider for life, Mike never missed an opportunity to flash the “Guns Up!” sign and passionately cheer on Texas Tech. He was also a devoted Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan, embracing both his alma mater and his Irish heritage with equal enthusiasm.

Following graduation, Mike began his career with French’s Mustard before pursuing his entrepreneurial spirit. He went on to own and operate several successful employment agencies in Lubbock, Grapevine, McKinney, and Lewisville, Texas, helping countless individuals find meaningful careers and opportunities.

In 1974, Mike “Joe” married the love of his life, Sandra Jean Boren “Jean”. Together Joe and Jean built a loving family and were blessed with two children, Michael Joseph Sheils II and Amanda Jayne Sheils Gregg, who were the pride and joy of his life.

One of Mike’s greatest passions was supporting his son’s baseball journey. He rarely missed an opportunity to be at the ballpark and was a devoted supporter of Grapevine High School Mustang Baseball. He became well known not only for his unwavering encouragement of the team but also for his legendary “Stang Chili,” a fan favorite that players, families, and friends looked forward to year after year. 

Mike was a devoted family man whose greatest joy was being present for those he loved. Mike and Amanda shared a daddy-daughter bond unlike any other—one built on unconditional love, unwavering support, laughter, and a friendship that only grew stronger over the years. They shared countless conversations, celebrated life’s successes together, and leaned on one another through its challenges.

They also shared a passion for the field of Human Resources. Amanda proudly followed in her father’s footsteps, and they often exchanged ideas, discussed workplace challenges, and celebrated one another’s professional accomplishments. Their shared love for people and helping others created yet another special connection between them, one that Amanda will forever treasure.

Mike was immensely proud of his Irish heritage and embraced it wholeheartedly. Whether sharing family stories, celebrating traditions, or simply speaking to loved ones “from afar,” his Irish spirit and unmistakable wit were woven into everyday life. He also had a fun-loving side that everyone recognized immediately—he was rarely happier than when he was wearing one of his signature Hawaiian shirts, bringing color, laughter, and his easygoing personality wherever he went.

Above all else, Mike will be remembered for his deep love of family, his entrepreneurial drive, his resilience, and the kindness he extended to others throughout his life. During his final weeks, he faced extraordinary medical challenges with remarkable courage, humility, and gratitude, never losing his appreciation for those who cared for him. His strength and grace left a profound impact on everyone privileged to be by his side.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth Jane Young Sheils and Denis Francis Sheils. He is survived by his devoted wife of more than five decades, Sandra Jean Sheils; his son, Michael Joseph Sheils II (Ashley); his daughter, Amanda Jayne Sheils Gregg (Shannon Gregg); his loving brother, Dennis Sheils; 3 grandsons, Parker and Preston Sheils & Harrison Gregg and many beloved family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that Mike’s legacy of love, laughter, faith, perseverance, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew him. Whether cheering “Guns Up!”, rooting for Notre Dame, wearing a favorite Hawaiian shirt, or making those around him smile, Mike lived life with heart and authenticity. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Per request of the family, please do not wear black to the services. In honor of Mr. Sheils please wear your favorite Hawaiian shirt or tropical attire. 

Visitation will be held at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. 

A Funeral Service will take place at Good Shepherd Catholic Community, 1000 Tinker Rd, Colleyville, TX 76034, US, on July 27, 2026, from 11:00 am, with interment to follow in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park at 1:00 pm.
